Saving energy is a no-brainer when you think about it. It saves us, the consumer, money, at the same time as taking the pressure off our already strained natural resources. There are many ways we can save energy and many of them do not involve serious lifestyle changes and some can be quite good fun.
Cut down on holidays. I am not saying never go on holiday, but with cut price flights it has become easy and cheap for us to go away for the weekend on a whim. Instead set aside a weekend for a virtual holiday. Take a good book, sit in the garden on your plantation teak furniture and forget the chores for a couple of days. A mini-holiday without leaving your home!
Also try and cut down on the electrical appliances you use in the home. Many of us automatically use the tumble dryer without thinking of cost or the impact on the environment. Why not try an old fashioned whirly line for a change?
If some of your household appliances are getting old they could be using far more energy (and costing you more money) than the newer more efficient ones, so when it comes to replacing them make sure that you check the energy rating on the new ones. Many models of dishwasher and washing machine now come with a whole host of energy and water saving features so choose carefully.
