Energy Efficient Solutions

There is immense pressure on the resources of the world today. As our number increases, human beings are finding it difficult to meet everybody's needs. While some parts of the world enjoy much more than a fair share, in other parts, people strive to meet basic needs like water or food.

Energy is an extremely important factor in modern life. Our lifestyle is pretty much wholly dependent on energy. Traditional energy is derived from fossil fuels, but we know that the fossil fuel reserves on earth are not infinite. It is therefore important to invest our resources in developing alternative sources of energy.

Everything that we consume on a day to day basis has been produced by expending an amount of energy. Some things are more energy intensive than others. In that sense, the choices that we make have a direct impact on our future as a species! Any kind of recycling, be it household waste recycling, or plasterboard recycling , should be encouraged!

Producing anything requires energy, and this includes not just primary energy used in making the product, but secondary and tertiary inputs of energy like the energy of human labour, the energy required to produce raw materials, the energy required to transport raw materials, and finally the energy required to transport the final product from the place of production to the market.

With globalisation, the chain between production and consumption has become long and complex. This makes the entire global economic system extremely energy intensive. In this light, it is important for people to become aware of the situation and make sensible choices.
